Hi my name is Irene McCarthy. I have been interested in working with dogs from a young age and after retiring from the army I finally had the chance to complete a Professional Dog training course with Creedons College Cork in 2017. I opened The Dog House shortly after, with the aim of providing a modern, science-based Dog Training and Daycare centre in Co Kerry.
I am passionate about positive, reward-based training methods which have been scientifically proven to be the best and simplest way for your dog to learn. We specialise in practical pet dog training which helps your dog be well adjusted and a joy to live with.
I am a student member of the Association for Pet Dog Trainers and attend regular seminars and workshops in order to keep up with the latest developments in dog training and behaviour.
I currently share my life with a Malinois called Zeus and two Rottweilers called Smyth and Weston, but I have experience with a wide variety of breeds and types.
Our in-house groomer and second trainer is Ilse Sas. She has been working with dogs in various capacities since 2003. Ilse holds qualifications in dog grooming, dog training and animal welfare. She has worked in kennels, grooming salons, rescue centres, an assistance dog charity, a veterinary clinic and as a teacher of Fetac/QQI courses in animal welfare, grooming and training. She currently lives with 4 poodles, a Labrador, a dobermann and a chihuahua x, as well as an ever changing number of foster dogs
