THE GROOMER IN THE DOG HOUSE
What are the benefits of getting your dog professionally groomed?
- To prevent your dog’s coat from painful matting, which can cause all kinds of skin conditions and result in hefty vet bills
- To reduce excessive shedding in breeds who do not need clipping. If you’ve ever lived with a Jack Russell or a Golden Retriever, you know that your vacuum cleaner will thank you.
- To prevent and/or detect health issues such as ingrown nails, ear infections, lumps, parasites etc.

We offer a full grooming service in our purpose-built grooming salon and cater to all breeds and sizes. You can bring your dog in for a wash, dry and de-shed session, or for a full clip and style.

PUPPY PACKAGES

Why do we offer Puppy Packages?
Grooming can be stressful for dogs if they’re not introduced to it in a positive way. It is an environment full of unfamiliar sounds, new sensations and strange smells. The dryer and the clippers are a new sound and a new sensation on your dog’s skin and coat. The scissors make a funny sound as well, and some dogs even find the sensation of water on their back unfamiliar.
What happens during the puppy sessions?
We teach your dog to be groomed using positive and reward based training techniques, so they learn to enjoy their grooming sessions. This is especially important for those pups who will need regular grooming for the rest of their lives, but it is highly beneficial for all breeds. Just imagine your Labrador or Golden Retriever getting into paint, engine oil or something really smelly out on a walk. We’ve dealt with all of those over the years.
Our Puppy Packages consist of 3 grooming sessions, booked no more than 4 weeks apart. During the first session your puppy will spend some time in the grooming room, exploring the room while another dog is being groomed, to get them used to the smells, sights and sounds. They will get a bath and a blow dry, have their nails clipped, their ears cleaned and if possible, the hair in front of their eyes shortened. It is a nice relaxed session, with plenty of breaks for cuddles and treats.
During the second and third sessions, we build on that first positive experience, and adapt the groom to your puppy and your puppy’s future grooming requirements. These sessions can include anything from bath, dry and de-shed, foot and leg trim, full clip and style. It really depends on your pup’s needs and your wishes.
How much does it cost?
Our Puppy Packages typically start at €80 for the 3 sessions, for a small dog who will need to be clipped, eg cavachon, bichon, shih tzu, yorkie etc.
Prices will vary for medium to large breeds, or dogs who won’t need to be clipped but will benefit from regular de-shedding treatments, (eg husky, golden retriever, labrador, german shepherd, jack russell, pug etc), so please send me a message about those pups.
We can start as soon as your pup has had all his or her puppy vaccinations. Puppies need to be under 6 months when they start their Puppy Package.
